Night fall

The setting of the smiling sun
gives dawn to a reverberant
twilight;
When the volatile streets start
to empty
and the quietude of homes,
begin to noisily fill;
Amidst all this uproar and
activity
the twittering of sparrows;
and crowing of ravens
take center stage outdoors
As the once cheerful, blooming
flower
Devalue its exuberance;
Withering away its once
fragrance
Into a dreary, hideous bud
As the enigma of dark
Finally takes charge
When the chaste moon
gradually peeps,
betwixt the graying, celestial
clouds;
As the the weeping dew answers the call for solace
Of the parched earth

Note: This is a re-produced poem which was first published on Panorama, the Sunday supplement of The Navhind Times, a Goan daily, around nine years back, and subsequently, made its appearance on Vidya, the annual magazine of Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts & Science, Margao

  3. Thanks Shilpa. But it would also be nice to know why you liked the lines or else I will take it that you have commented just to please me, not on your own accord.
